Innovation · Biosecure ID
The Vellixis Programme is Biosecure ID's flagship innovation platform — an automated differential extraction system designed to compress forensic DNA turnaround time from weeks to hours, and ultimately to minutes at the point of need.
Technology Readiness — Vellixis Sub-components
Target: TRL 6 across all sub-components by end of 18-month incubation period (Dec 2025 - Mar 2027).
The Vellixis Programme
Vellixis is Biosecure ID's core innovation platform — an automated DNA extraction and cell separation system powered by SpermX™ Nanofiber technology, initially targeting forensic sexual assault casework and expanding into clinical oncology and applied genomics.
Current forensic DNA workflows require highly skilled analysts, complex manual steps, and centralised laboratories. The average sexual assault DNA case takes over three months from sample collection to a reported result. Samples can take up to two months to reach the lab, risking evidence loss and compromising chain of custody.
Vellixis addresses this end-to-end. By automating the most time-consuming and error-prone step — differential extraction — and pairing it with nanofiber-based cell capture, Vellixis delivers a DNA profile in under one day, compared to the current 14-day laboratory standard.
Product Roadmap
A staged platform evolution — from forensic validation to clinical oncology and integrated next-generation sequencing.
The entry platform — targeting forensic sexual assault casework with automated SpermX™ Nanofiber differential extraction. Early laboratory data and partner-led evaluations show promising results in sample handling, recovery, and workflow efficiency.
Expanding the Vellixis platform into clinical oncology — leveraging the same nanofiber capture technology to isolate circulating tumour cells and cell-free DNA from blood samples for liquid biopsy applications.
The full-platform vision — integrating rare cell capture with next-generation sequencing for comprehensive oncology profiling, connecting sample-to-insight within a single automated system.
The Challenge
Forensic DNA laboratories worldwide are operating with legacy technology that is slow, manual, and unable to meet demand. Vellixis was built specifically to address these structural barriers.
The science of DNA identification has been available for decades. The bottleneck is not analytical capability — it is the speed, cost, and complexity of the sample preparation workflow that precedes it.
Rape Crisis UK reports only 5% of victims report crimes. Globally, only 20% of the 2.5 million reported rape cases undergo DNA evidence analysis. The cost of establishing a forensic DNA facility averages US$1.25M, and processing 1,000 cases costs approximately US$325,000 — placing forensic capability out of reach for many jurisdictions.
The Vellixis Programme directly addresses the extraction and preparation bottleneck — the step that determines whether DNA evidence reaches the analyst at all.
Universal DNA Analysis Platform
Vellixis is the first phase of Biosecure ID's Universal DNA Analysis Platform (UDAP) — a multimodal, sample-to-insight system targeting the US$25B applied genetic testing market.
Investment Opportunity
Biosecure ID is raising its Seed Round to accelerate Vellixis from proof of concept to product release and early commercialisation.
Biosecure ID has progressed from concept and prototyping to early internal validation. Functional prototypes have been developed and tested across core forensic and applied genomics workflows, with promising results in improved sample handling, recovery, and workflow efficiency.
Seed Round funding will support design-for-manufacture optimisation, supply chain and inventory readiness, pilot deployments, quality and regulatory groundwork, and go-to-market execution to grow the install base.
Applied Genetic Testing Markets
UDAP's common technology stack for DNA/RNA detection enables rapid extension across adjacent applied markets as the platform matures.
